Growing Roots for a Greener Future: Join Our Tree Planting Events!

At Friends of the Rouge Watershed (FRW), we believe that lasting change begins with action—one tree at a time. Our Community Planting Events bring together community members, environmental stewards, and nature lovers of all ages to help restore and protect the Rouge River watershed.

Why Tree Planting Matters?

Trees are essential to healthy ecosystems. They clean the air, filter stormwater, reduce erosion, and create habitat for wildlife. In urban areas like the Rouge River watershed, reforesting degraded landscapes helps combat climate change and enhances the quality of life for residents and future generations.

Over the past two decades, FRW has engaged thousands of volunteers to plant over 700,000 native trees and shrubs—each one making a tangible difference in restoring ecological health to the region.

What to Expect at Our Events

Tree planting with FRW is a hands-on, rewarding experience. Volunteers work alongside trained staff and fellow community members, learning about native species and the importance of biodiversity. Events typically include:

  • A short educational session and demonstration

  • Tools, gloves, and materials provided on-site

  • Opportunities to track your impact and earn volunteer hours

No prior experience is needed—just bring your energy, a pair of sturdy shoes, and a love for nature.

Upcoming Opportunities

We host planting events throughout the spring and fall seasons across various locations within the watershed. Each site is chosen based on ecological need, restoration potential, and community accessibility.

Reach out to our coordinator for upcoming dates or to book an event for your school, workplace, or community group.

Get Involved

Volunteering at a tree planting event is one of the most direct ways to support environmental restoration and climate action in your own backyard. Whether you’re a student, a retiree, or a corporate team, your contribution helps build a more resilient, vibrant watershed for all.
